Faculty in Residence

The Faculty in Residence (FIR) at 大发体育开户 live on campus in the first year residential communities and provide mentorship and educational opportunities. They work closely with the Residence Life Staff to create an environment that is conducive to academic and personal success.

Dr. Patrick Jackson

Dr. Patrick Johnson and his wife Catherine
Dr. Patrick Jackson first came to 大发体育开户 in 2008, and is now a Professor of English.  His field of research is modern British poetry, and he teaches a wide array of classes with subjects including J.R.R. Tolkien鈥檚 The Lord of the Rings, war poetry, world literature, and crime fiction.  He has also taught study abroad programs in England and Italy multiple times.  Outside of academics, his interests include meditation, walking, and finding opportunities to hang out with his son, Oscar (newly off to college).  Dr. Jackson became a Faculty in Residence in the fall of 2022, moving into the Broadway Crossing residence hall with his wife, Catherine.  They are both thrilled to be a part of the 大发体育开户 ResLife community and have been grateful for all of the friends they have made among the students and staff.

Dr. Leslie Haines

Dr. Leslie Haines

Dr. Leslie Haines is a faculty member in the English Department, specializing in nineteenth-century literature, particularly British Romantic and Victorian poetry, as well as European Romanticism to Realism. She teaches courses across a wide range of topics, including First-Year Composition, World Literature, Early American Literature, Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Literature, Romantic and Victorian Literature, Fantasy Literature, and Comparative Arts. She loves that teaching lets her share her passion for language, literature, art, and global cultures while continuing to learn from the campus community.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Haines stays active with swimming, hiking, yoga, and ballet. She also loves cooking, painting, knitting, playing video games, and making zines. You might find her at the Rec Center pool, cheering on campus basketball games, enjoying a theater or music performance, or on a campus walkabout.

As a Faculty in Residence, Dr. Haines is excited to connect with students beyond the classroom and build community through planned events for Clearview residents, including home-cooked meals at her place, service projects, creative activities, and group study sessions. She is also here to support students in small, informal, and personalized ways, so feel free to reach out. And, if you see her around, say hi!
